8-Legged Beam Truss Center Bracket - (BB8L)
 
The BB8L is the center plate for a busy truss hub. Use it when a main beam meets a king post and several angle braces at one joint and you need eight legs on a single plate.
 
It is cut from A36 structural steel as one piece. No welds. Legs, angles, thickness, and holes are set to your timbers—not to a stock “one-size” 8-arm shape.
 
What buyers are actually comparing
 
Most competing pages sell either:
  • A full truss kit at a listed beam width and pitch (flush or overhang ends, square or chamfered)
  • A fixed multi-arm plate in one thickness
  • A toothed nail plate meant for hidden factory trusses
Those are different products. A kit is the right buy if every joint on the truss matches their menu. A nail plate is the right buy if the steel will be covered. BB8L is the right buy when you already know the center joint and need that one plate cut from A36 to the members that land there.
 
When an 8-leg plate is the right SKU
 
Count the faces at the hub.
  • 4-leg or 5-leg — simpler king-post / queen-post layouts
  • 6-leg or 7-leg — extra braces, but not a full eight
  • BB8L — eight members at one intersection (beam plus post plus multiple braces)
If you only have five or six members, do not order eight legs and leave two unused. Order the matching leg count (BB5L, BB6L, BB7L) so the plate follows the wood.
 
What to measure before you order
 
This is where custom plates beat kits.
  1. Dressed width of the main beam
  2. Dressed width of the king post or vertical
  3. Dressed width of each brace
  4. Pitch or angle of each brace
  5. How the braces meet the beam (flush, notched, or tight to the face)
  6. Fastener type and hole size
  7. Steel thickness
  8. Finish
If the posts are cedar or another dressed timber, send the actual size, not the nominal size. That is the same issue as undersizing a post base: the plate only fits if the steel matches the wood you have on site.
 
Steel, thickness, and finishBB8L is A36 structural steel. Thickness is selected for the job—common range is 1/8" up through heavier plate when the connection needs it. Finish options typically include black powder coat, hammered black, oil-rubbed bronze, rusted patina, or unfinished. Match the center plate to the corner plates and peak plate so the truss reads as one set.
 
Holes can be laid out for lags or through-bolts. Say which you are using so the pattern is not a generic grid that misses the timber.
 
Where it is used
 
Exposed multi-brace trusses on:
  • Pergolas and pavilions
  • Gazebos and porch roofs
  • Barns and timber-frame buildings
  • Gable and decorative roof framing where the center joint stays visible
It is a face-mounted web plate / gusset at the center of the truss. It is not a ridge peak plate (that is two rafters only). It is not a 3-leg corner plate. It is not a post base.
 
How it fits with the rest of the truss
 
A complete exposed truss usually needs more than the center plate:
  • Center hub — BB8L (or BB5L / BB6L / BB7L if you have fewer members)
  • Corners — 2-leg or 3-leg plates
  • Peak — ridge plate (RPBBF if the set is Bia Finial; DFBBRB3 if the set is diamond finial)
  • Hardware and concrete anchors if the posts land on a slab
Order the same thickness, hole style, and finish across those pieces.
 
After you order
 
The plate will be drawn for approval before steel is cut. Confirm loads, fastener schedule, and whether the plate is decorative, secondary, or part of the engineered connection with your designer or local code.
